Are my goods insured?

Yes as long as you provide us with a declaration of the value of your goods and effects to be moved on the acceptance form, you will then be covered by our standard liability, which means in the event of loss of or damage to your goods, our liability to you is to be assessed as a sum equivalent to the cost of their repair or replacement whichever is the smaller sum, taking into account the age and condition of the goods and subject to the maximum liability of £25,000 (unless we have agreed a higher amount with you). Is Packaging Supplied?

Yes we include all your packaging requirements as part of the quotation , unless otherwise stated. Should you require any extra you can contact the office to arrange this, however there will be an additional charge.

What packing services do you offer?

Full Packing

Our fully experienced and trained team will come and pack up all your belongings and effects (usually the day before your removal), we recommend you pack up your own personal items such as money, trinkets, passports and all valuables as per paragraph 5 of our terms and conditions.

Fragile Packing
Again, our experienced team will come and pack up all your fragile items as follows. Pictures, mirrors, glassware, china, delicate lamp shades and delicate light fittings.   

Can I change my moving date?

We advise that you call us on 01787 377489 as soon as possible to book in your survey appointment and then keep in touch with us with your moving date, cancelation charges will apply for 10 days notice or less.

Moving can be very stressful and waiting to complete and exchange can be a very trying time, and then trying to work around everyone in the chain if there is one to come up with a moving date can be very difficult…At Todds we have several years experience of dealing with this and it is very common for people to want or need to change their removal date sometimes at short notice and we will always accommodate you where we can.

Do you dismantle and reassemble furniture?

We can of course dismantle and reassemble furniture on your behalf, but this is an additional service we offer and would not be included within your quotation, unless you asked us to do it for you. At the survey this is a good time to discuss all your requirements to make sure we are giving you what you want and need, which is why we advise having a survey.

Should I empty my Fridge/Freezer?

Yes, you need to empty, properly defrost and clean refrigerators and freezers. We are not responsible for the contents.

How much will it cost to move house?

Every move is different and will depend on the number of personal effects you own, whether you want Todds to pack for you, the access to both properties, the distance you are moving and the time and man power required, this is why we recommend having a survey done at your home at a time convenient to you to discuss your requirements in full in the comfort of your home, allowing us to provide you with an accurate quotation. How long does it take to move?

This depends on your individual circumstances; most house moves take at least one day – depending on distance. If you get Todds to do your packing, this is normally scheduled for the day before your actual removal date. Your removal schedule will be determined within your quotation.

What happens if I don’t get the keys to the new house on time?

If you do not get access to your new property by 1.30pm, additional costs will apply. However for your peace of mind, we offer a Waiting Time Waiver, as an additional extra, providing an extended 3 hour waiting period from 1.30pm. If for any reason you cannot get your keys on time you will incur no extra charges until the three hour waiting period has expired. Should I empty my drawers?

This is a question we are asked a lot and as every move is different there is no one answer to fit all scenarios.

Clothes, bedding, linens and other soft items can be left in chests of drawers or dressing tables assuming the piece of furniture itself is solid enough to take the weight and not liable to collapse during moving.

Always remove:

  • Heavy items such as books, CDs and DVDs and pack them in boxes supplied for this purpose.
  • Valuables such as jewellery, money, cheque books and important documents take these with you.
  • Fragile items such as those made from glass and porcelain, these need to be wrapped and packed appropriately.

Consider if the piece of furniture will have to be turned on it’s side to fit through doorways or down stairs and if so empty the drawers.

The drawers in divan beds should always be emptied.

Other drawers such as those in filing cabinets and desks should also be emptied and the contents packed unless the drawers can be removed and secured, then they can be moved on their own.

When Can I get My Things out of store?

If your items are stored in our containerised storage facility access to your containers is done by appointment only this is because the containers are stacked and are not easy to get to.

If you require access to collect one or two items only please telephone the office and we will try to fit you in. Please be aware at busy times we will require plenty of notice.

When you want all your things out of store, again just give us a call to arrange a mutually convenient time and we will deliver them to you, unload the containers and, just like a removal, place the items of furniture as per your instructions. Again at busy times please give us plenty of notice. We recommend you do not request your items be delivered on completion day as delays in getting keys or access to your new home can incur further charges.


What is included in the cost of my removal?

One of the most frequently asked questions is why are your charges more than I expected?

We would always advise getting more than one quote when looking for a removal company but it is important to compare like with like. Yes we, a professional removals company, are going to be more expensive than a man with a van or hiring a van and moving yourself.

As a professional removals company we at Todds Removals provide the very best service. We ensure that on your removal day not only do we supply the correct amount of people to carry out your removal, but our crews are fully trained, uniformed and informed of the job at hand.

We also ensure that appropriate vehicles are used, it is no use loading all your furniture in to one large lorry if that lorry cannot access your new property. Our trucks are specially designed for moving furniture and used only for this purpose.

Included in our price is all the packing materials you will need from boxes to tape to packing paper to bubble wrap. Our surveyor will assess the volume of your possessions at your removal survey and we supply the correct amount of materials needed to pack all your things. We will also deliver packing materials to your house prior to your removal so you can start packing at your own pace. It would be easy to cut costs by using cheap inferior boxes but this can lead to damage to your possessions so we at Todds Removals use the best quality packing materials to keep your belongings safe.

Also included may be the cost of dismantling and re-assembling larger items of furniture.

On removal day we will also supply suite and armchair covers, TV covers, appliance covers, hanging wardrobes and mattress bags. All furniture will be blanket wrapped on the lorry to prevent scuffs and scratches.

We also have a team in the office to answer your calls prior to and after your removal rather than you trying to get hold of someone whilst they are carrying out another removal job.moving boxes

After your removal we will also collect your boxes and other packing materials once you have finished unpacking, provided you haven’t moved too far away, and re-use or recycle them rather than leaving you to dispose of them.

Whilst we carry out your removal your furniture and effects will be covered by our insurance from the moment we pick them up to the moment we deliver them to your new home.

We are a member of BAR (British Association of Removers) who offers a reconciliation service, and, should we fail to arrive on your moving day, guarantees your removal will be completed or any monies paid up front will be refunded.

So yes we may be a little more than you had expected to pay but we deliver a lot more than you think.
